La mostra permanente La Vita non è Sogno
Si tratta di una mostra di fotografie, manoscritti, lettere, onorificenze provenienti dall’Archivio del poeta, acquisito nel maggio 2000 dalla Provincia Regionale di Messina. Essa intende mettere in evidenza gli svariati interessi artistici e culturali del grande poeta.
Il percorso della mostra parte dal periodo messinese (anni 1908-1919) con interessanti testimonianze degli anni giovanili: alcune foto d’epoca del poeta e dei suoi familiari, il diploma conseguito presso l’Istituto Tecnico A.M.Jaci di Messina, la raccolta di poesie giovanili, composte tra il 1915 ed il 1919, dal titolo Bacia la soglia di casa tua, i manoscritti dalla raccolta Dare e Avere, varie testimonianzesulla sua attività di critico d'arte tra cui alcune foto insieme agli amici artisti. Il percorso continua con l’esposizione degli spartiti musicali ispirati da liriche del Quasimodo.Il suo amore per il teatro è testimoniato dalla sua lunga attività come critico teatrale (dal 1948 al 1959) per la rivista Omnibus e Il Tempo e come traduttore di opere teatrali di Sofocle, Eschilo, Euripide, Shakespeare, Molière. Egli collaborò a numerose riviste letterarie del tempo, in particolare alla rivista genovese Circoli (1931) e la rivista fiorentina Solaria che pubblicheranno i primi due libri del poeta: Acque e Terre e Oboe Sommerso. E’ questo un importante periodo di incontri con poeti come Montale, Sbarbaro, Angelo Barile, Adriano Grande.
Alla fine del percorso troviamo il mondo affettivo dell’uomo Quasimodo con le liriche più alte dedicate ai suoi familiari, alla madre, al padre, alla figlia, al fratello, alla prima moglie, Bice Donetti e alla seconda, Maria Cumani. Una sezione a parte è dedicata alle presenze femminili nella vita del poeta testimoniata da quattro epistolari (A Sibilla, Lettere d’amore a Maria Cumani, Lettere d’amore ad Amelia Spezialetti e a Curzia Ferrari). L’ultima sezione è dedicata al Nobel per la Letteratura di cui il poeta è stato insignito il 22 ottobre 1959 dal re Gustavo VI di Svezia e che rappresenta il coronamento della sua vita poetica.
Testimonianze esemplari esposte nella mostra: la medaglia di bronzo dorato del Nobel, una medaglia di bronzo, diverse fotografie dell’avvenimento e alcuni telegrammi di felicitazioni per il poeta tra cui quello più caro del soave amico di Vento a Tindari Salvatore Pugliatti che gli fu sempre vicino.
Permanent exhibition Life is not a Dream
The permanent exhibition Life is not a Dream, dedicated to Salvatore Quasimodo, Nobel Prize recipient for Literature (1959), first opened on the 23rd of April 2001. It is housed in the modern and Contemporary Art Gallery of the Regional Province of Messina. It consists of photos, manuscripts, letters, honors coming from the Archives of the poet owned by the Regional Province of Messina. It is subdivided in nine sections and shows the various artistic and cultural interests of the great poet. The exhibition itinerary begins with the period of his life in Messina (1908-1919) with Interesting documents of his youth; his diploma from the technical school A. M. Jaci in Messina, the collection of juvenile poems written between 1915 and 1919 entitled Kiss the threshold of your Home; manuscripts from the collection To Give and To Have; several testimonies of his activity as art critic including pictures with his artist friends. The exhibition continues with musical scores inspired by Quasimodo’s lyrics. His love for theatre is witnessed by his long activity as theatrical critic (from 1948 to 1959) for the weekly magazine Omnibus and Time and as translator of the theatrical works of Sophocles, Aeschylus, Euripides, Shakespeare and Molière. He contributed to several literary reviews Circoli (1931) and the Florentine review Solaria which published his first two books of verse Waters and Lands and Sunken Oboe. At the end of the exhibit is the personal world of the poet with his most inspired lyric verses written for those closest to him, mother, father, daughter, brother, also to his first wife Bice Donetti, and to his second wife Maria Cumani. A separate section is dedicated to the women in his life with four collections of letters, ( To Sibilla, Love letters to Maria Cumani, Love Letters to Amelia Spezialetti and to Curzia Ferrari). The last section is dedicated to the Nobel Prize for Literature which was awarded to Salvatore Quasimodo on the 10th of December 1959 by King Gustave VI of Sweden and which symbolizes the crowning piece of his poetic achievement. The exhibition includes the Nobel Gold Medal, a bronze medal, photos of the event and some congratulation telegrams to the poet, the dearest one from his young friend of the Wind of Tyndari, Salvatore Pugliatti who supported him during all of his artistic life.
