Castello di Roccavaldina

Il Castello di Roccavaldina si trova al centro del piccolo paese di cui un tempo rappresentò il simbolo  del potere feudale. Arroccato sullo scoscendimento di una collina è uno splendido punto di osservazione del territorio circostante.

Si riconoscono le due parti del maniero: il Castello, posizionato nella parte anteriore, è caratterizzato dall’essenzialità, un modello di tipologia militare dalla planimetria interna rigidamente simmetrica, ed il Palazzo baronale con evidenti caratteristiche abitative, accostato sul retro.

Il prospetto principale si presenta, al piano terra, privo di aperture con delle strette finestre, mentre al piano superiore conserva il grandioso portale a sesto acuto. Il corpo a pianoterra è di origine militare, con il fianco sinistro e la Torre diviso in celle carcerarie e quello destro con Sala d’armi ed alloggi militari. Le 2 Torri cilindriche, poste ai lati della facciata, furono realizzate in epoca successiva. Il palazzo baronale è stato realizzato in uno stile di transizione tra il rinascimentale ed il barocco. Singolari sono i due diversi tipi di merlature, guelfo sul fronte e ghibellino sul lato nord-est.

Oggi il Castello Palazzo di Roccavaldina è in ristrutturazione con il fine di trasformarlo in Museo o in Facoltà Universitaria di restauro.

Castle of Roccavaldina

The Castle of Roccavaldina is located in the center of the small town of which once represented the symbol of feudal  power.

Perched on the slope of a hill is a splendid observation  point of the surrounding area.

The two parts of the manor are recognizable: the Castle, located in the front, is characterized by its essentiality, a model of military type with a rigidly symmetrical internal plan, and the Baronial Palace with evident housing features, pulled at the back.

The main façade is on the ground floor without openings with narrow windows, while on the upper floor it retains the grandiose pointed arch portal.

The body on the ground floor is of military origin, with the left side and the Tower divided into prison cells and the right one with the Arms Room and military lodgings. The 2 cylindrical towers, placed on the sides of the façade, were built at a later date. The baronial palace was built in a transitional style between the Renaissance and the Baroque. The two different types of battlements are singular, Guelph on the front and Ghibelline on the north-east side.

Today the Palazzo di Roccavaldina Castle is undergoing renovation with the aim of transforming it into a museum or university faculty of restoration.
