LUCIO FONTANA
Lucio Fontana nasce in Argentina nel 1899 (Rosario 1899-Comabbio 1968). Il padre è scultore. Si trasferisce in Italia per frequentare le scuole e comincia a lavorare nella bottega del padre.Nel 1927 si iscrive all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera e segue i corsi di Adolfo Wildt.Viaggia molto in Sudamerica dove apre uno studio di scultura. Entra in contatto con l’ambiente dell’astrattismo lombardo. Alterna opere astratte con le ceramiche “barocche”. Torna a Buenos Aires dove partecipa alla stesura del “Manifesto Blanco” che segna la nascita dello “Spazialismo”.In Italia pubblica il “Primo Manifesto dello Spazialismo” a cui seguirà il “Secondo Manifesto dello Spazialismo” ed il Terzo Manifesto nel 1950.Fontana cerca di raggiungere l’effetto tridimensionale e nel 1949 nasce la sua invenzione più originale, quando realizza i primi quadri forando le tele e dando vita al “Ciclo dei Buchi”. In seguito Fontana, oltre a forare le tele, le dipinge e vi applica frammenti di vetro, avviando il “Ciclo delle Pietre”.Nel 1958 realizza le prime opere con i “tagli”, con il titolo “Concetto Spaziale”. Nel 1963 appare la notissima serie della “Fine di Dio”, grandi tele ovali verticali monocrome recanti squarci.Muore nel 1968.

L’artista affronta il problema della dimensione oltre il disegno e della profondità spaziale nella rappresentazione e guarda ad un’arte sintetica. Il dipinto appartiene al “Ciclo delle Pietre”. Fontana tenta di rappresentare la sensibilità ed il vitalismo dell’uomo contemporaneo.

Lucio Fontana- Was born in Argentina on the 1899 (Rosario 1899-Comabbio 1968). His father works as a sculptor. He moves to Italy to go to school and he starts work in the father’s workshop. In 1927 he enrols in Brera’s Academy of Fine Arts and he attends the Adolfo Wildt’s courses. He travels a lot to Sudamerica where he starts up a studio of sculpture. He comes into contact with the milieu of Lombard abstactionism. He alternats between abstract works and the baroque ceramics. He comes back to Buenos Aires where he shares in wording of “Manifesto Blanco” that indicates the inception of the “Spatialism”. In Italy he publishes the “First Manifesto of the Spatialism”, after the “Second Manifesto of the Spatialism” and, in 1950, the third Manifesto.Fontana tries to arrive to tridimensional effect and in 1949 his most original creativity appears when he realizes the first paintings drilling the canvases and starting the “Cycle of the holes”. After Fontana, in addition to drill the canvases, he paints them and sticks on them fragments of glass, starting the “Cycle of the stones”. In 1958 he realizes the first works with the “cuts”, entitling them “Spatial concept”.In 1963 there is the well-known series “God’s end”- big, ovales, vertical and monochrome canvases with tears.He died in 1968.
SPATIAL CONCEPT -1956 - Is a mixed tecnique on canvas.The artist tackles the problem about the dimension over the painting and the spatial depth in the representation and he looks on a brief art. This painting belongs to “Cycle of the stones”.Fontana tries to represent the contemporary man’s sensibility and imaginative vitalism.
