FELICE CANONICO
Felice Canonico nasce a Messina nel 1922 (Milano 1997), nel dopoguerra si trasferisce a Milano dove muore nel 1997.Ha partecipato alla Quadriennale di Roma e alla Triennale di Milano ed ha esposto al Louvre di Parigi. Dagli anni cinquanta in poi l’opera di Felice Canonico si è rinnovata con periodiche modificazioni tanto che si suole suddividere l’attività creativa dell’artista in più cicli nettamente differenti l’uno dall’altro. La sperimentazione di tecniche e linguaggi è il tratto caratteristico di questo artista. Proprio per i suoi sorprendenti cambiamenti, frutto di una continua ricerca espressiva, Canonico occupa un posto tutto suo nel panorama artistico italiano del Novecento.

La tela che raffigura dei pescatori dai colori scuri ed un cane in riva al mare, è espressione di quel realismo sociale che coinvolge molti artisti siciliani, a seguito di Guttuso, e che nel dopoguerra si pone in conflitto con i formalisti.

Felice Canonico was born in Messina in 1922 (Milano 1997), after the war he moved to Milan where he died in 1997.He participated in the Four-year at Rome and in Three-year at Milan and he has exhibited at the Louvre in Paris. From the fifties onwards the work of Felice Canonico has been renewed with periodic changes so much that it’s customary to divide the creative activity of the artist in several cycles distinctly different from each other. Testing techniques and languages is the halfmark of this artist. Because of his startling changes, the result of a continuous search for expression, Canonico occupies a place of his own in the italian art of the twentieth century.
FISHERMEN BROTHERS - 1953 - It’s an oil on canvas, cm 87,5x66 - The canvas that pictures a few fishermen brothers by dark colors and a dog while they are on the sea, it’s an expression of the social realism that involves many artists in Sicily, following Guttuso, and that, after the war, it stands in conflict with the formalists.
